Company History
Martin & Son Jewelers is a three generation family owned and operated retail jewelry store that served the city of Newark for over 70 years. Tracing its roots back to 1939 when Frank Martin was looking for a location to start his trade in jewelry, he looked no further than the very city that he grew up in, the city of Newark, New Jersey. It was there that he began operating a small jewelry shop. With a loyal customer base Frank Martin invited his son Richard into the business in the hopes that Richard's energy and strong determination would develop his now growing small store into a business. It was then that Martin & Son Jewelers was born.
In 1974, the Martin's made the decision to relocate themselves from their small location of 102 Park Place to the impressive National Newark Building located at 744 Broad Street. A building nestled in the heart of Newark's bustling city. For the next decade the two enjoyed the building that housed New Jersey's most prestigious legal, political and business firms. A building considered to be the "Crown Jewel of Newark".
In 1994 Richard continued his family's tradition by inviting the 3rd generation of Martins to learn the family business, and Tracy Martin was introduced to the business. Working side by side the two learned from one another. Richard taught his daughter the techniques of the trade, the ethics of business and the value of community. Tracy teaching her father the new age of business, the modern consumer needs and the value of time honored techniques incorporated into modern technology.
Now, over 70 years later, Tracy Martin has made the decision to relocate. With thoughts of her father and his dreams of a relaxed shopping environment, Tracy looked no further than to the town her father always took her as a child, Metuchen, New Jersey. Having wonderful memories of small town festivals and parades and the quaint neighborly shops of Main Street, Tracy's choice was an easy one.
For Martin & Son Jewelers, the future is quite clear. We will continue to serve the 3rd generation of customers and carry on the family tradition and service to each and every customer for generations to come.
